SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

The Serengeti is Tanzania's largest and most famous park and it has the largest concentration of migratory game animals in the world. "SERENGETI" is derived from the Maasai language and appropriately means "endless plain".

Most of the park, a world Heritage site, is vast open plain broken by rocky outcroppings (Kopjes) and some acacia savannah and swamps. Nearly 500 species of birds and 25 species of large plains animals can be found in the Serengeti. The Serengeti is particularly famous for the great migration of the wildebeest and Zebra through the plains of Tanzania's Serengeti and Kenya Maasai Mara.

This migration follows the general rainfall gradient across the ecosystem, with lower rainfall in the short grass plains of the southeast and higher rainfall in the northwest. From December to May, the migratory animals usually concentrate on the plains of south part of Serengeti and western Ngorongoro Conservation Area in search of short grass. In early May depends on rain they move to the center part of Seronera and progressed to western corridor of Serengeti in search of water.

During July through September, the Serengeti highest concentrations of wildlife is in the extreme north and September start to moving into central Serengeti again. By December, the animals have reached the south and cycle continues. The Serengeti has very nice lodges and Campsites.

SERENGETI BALLOON SAFARI

One of the classics safaris in Tanzania is the Serengeti Balloon Safari. This extra ordinary adventure of flying over Serengeti National Park by balloon gives tourists a great opportunity to view the Serengeti Plains more visibly. Normally, the Safari starts at dawn (5:00 am), and float in whichever direction the winds of the morning take you. It takes an hour to go around before landing and return to the Lodge or Campsite.

An experienced pilot controls the altitude of the balloon: Sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and greater photographic opportunities of wildlife and birdlife.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Pre-arrangements must be done before taking this adventure. The Safari will fit in safari itineraries including a night in central Serengeti (Serena Lodge, Sopa Lodge or Seronera Lodge or any of the central Serengeti camp sites).
